How to Pull Off Your Stress-Free Getaway

Everyone is itching to travel these days.

Whether it’s for an Alpine adventure in Idaho, a leisurely beach vacation in Cancun, a gastronomic tour of Italy, or capturing the sights and sounds of Nepal, the world is calling you.

The trick is pulling off a stress-free vacation, which starts by wrapping things up at the office and leaving work behind. Sounds easier said than done, right? Well, there’s no guarantee you won’t experience some issues, but with the following tips from Travel Her Way, you can beat the crowds and stress to have a relaxing, fun vacation experience in places both near and far.

Plan Ahead

When taking a vacation, most frustrations are born out of improper planning. Somewhere along your trip, you encounter an unexpected roadblock, and things begin to fly off the rails. You’ve forgotten to pack your passport, your wallet is stolen or you’ve booked your hotel for the day after your arrival. If something does happen, remember that your homeowners’ insurance policy covers all of your belongings, including those you take with you.

Double-check your dates and times and be sure to have a backup plan ready just in case a flight is delayed. Pack copies of your passport, and have a plan to receive cash, such as setting up an account with a money transfer service.

Planning ahead will also remove last-minute stress when it comes to packing your bags and getting your ducks in a row before taking off. The sooner you finish planning and packing, the sooner you begin to feel excitement for your upcoming trip.

Be Realistic About Your Trip

It’s important to be patient if you plan to take a trip during the high season. Crowded roads and airports mixed with a crush of people can lead to delays. Sometimes these situations can’t be avoided, so it’s important to keep an open mind when going into your travels.

Know what to expect once you get into the airport, and have a game plan in case there’s bumper-to-bumper traffic for long spells on the road. If you absolutely need to be at your destination for an event, you might want to adjust your travel times to account for these potential delays.

Pack Light

Nothing can be more frustrating than lugging around more luggage than you need. Overburdening yourself is a surefire way to quickly wear down your body and patience when traveling. A good strategy to avoid overburdening yourself is to simply pack light, according to Indiana Jo.

Separate your belongings wisely between your checked and carry-on luggage. If you’re driving, be sure to keep any necessities such as phone chargers, water, and snacks close by.

Dress Right

Traveling puts a lot of strain on the body. It’s important to try to remain as comfortable as possible for the duration of the trip. While you do not always have control over your environment while you travel, you can always control how you dress. Travelista notes that the biggest rule to remember when dressing for travel is to use layers.

You can wear a short-sleeve shirt together with a jacket or zip-up hoodie. This rule becomes especially important when traveling from colder to warmer climates. Dress too warmly, and you’ll be suffering once you land in Miami; dress too lightly, and you’ll be freezing when you hit the ground in Idaho.

Before You Leave

The last thing people want while on their getaway is to come home to a house that is messy, in disrepair, or worse. Sometimes, worrying about your home is enough to ruin trips to even the best locations. Before you leave, you will want to make sure that your home is accounted for. You should consider investing in your home’s security by setting up alarms and motion-activated lights to deter any theft or vandalism. It also might be a good idea to have family or friends come in and check on your house from time to time so you can spend less time worrying about what’s going on back home and more time enjoying yourself.

Whether visiting relatives, traveling with your partner, or just spending some quality alone time, all of these suggestions are essential for keeping your exciting vacation fun and stress-free.
